AIDS stands for Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. To know about the causes of AIDS, you have to know a bit details about the virus and its mode of infection.
The virus is commonly known as HIV or Human Immunodeficiency Virus. In reality, AIDS is not a disease. It is just a collection of some syndromes. The people suffering from AIDS, do not die from it. They die of other diseases like pneumonia, dysentry or diarrhoea.
The virus is actually a rheovirus. Reverse transcription process takes place in the virus during protein synthesis. Transcription is the process by which DNA strands in a cell get converted to mRNA strand during protein synthesis. This mRNA strand works as the template for protein synthesis. Rheoviri contain RNA strands. In presence of the enzyme Reverse transcriptase, this RNA strands get converted into DNA strands. This whole process is known as reverse transcription. This produced DNA penetrates the affected cell's DNA and using its replication machinery, it replicates at creates even several thousand copies of the same gene.
Causes of AIDS are not single faceted. Rather, they are multifaceted. This infection does not spread like the infection of influenza and other diseases. These viri (actually the viri genomic material) are found in the body fluid of a person. So, the real causes of AIDS are coming in the contact of the body fluids.
The people having more than one sexual partner are very prone to AIDS. Coming into sexual contact with a person carrying HIV in his/ her body fluid causes the other person's infection. So, proper protection methods should be used. Actually the causes of AIDS indicate that the disease is not so hard to prevent, but requires a bit of awareness.
In several developing countries, use of contraceptive method is not accepted in the society. These are the major causes of AIDS.
During blood transfusion, if the donor blood contains HIV without detection, it passes into the receiver's body. It then attacks the immunity system cells in the body and makes them defunct. It paves the way for other infections. In these cases small infections like influenza, pneumonia, and dysentery take a severe form and kill the patient.
AIDS can be easily prevented by not coming into contact with any person's body fluids like blood, semen or vaginal fluid and saliva who is the carrier of this virus.
ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay) test can detect a person whether having AIDS or not.
Proper medical investigation methods like ELISA and proper awareness and protection can abolish this disease.
